Enrollment procedures vary according to the status of each student as outlined below. All students are advised to first see the pamphlets posted on the "Insurance requirements for Kyoto University students" page of the University website and/or visit the Gakkensai and Futaibaiseki webpage of the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES), which provides Gakkensai, to obtain important information about these insurance plans.

Newly enrolled regular students (pre-matriculation procedures)

Please make sure to read the yellow "Insurance Enrollment Guide (for All Students)", enclosed with the University enrollment documents, and proceed with the required insurance enrollment procedures.

(In the case of students who have completed the required insurance procedures prior to matriculation, information on their insurance status will become available on KULASIS after the middle of the month of their matriculation.)

Current regular students who have not yet enrolled in the required insurance plan (post-matriculation procedures)

Please check your Gakkensai and Futaibaiseki insurance enrollment status on the webpage indicated below. If you are not yet enrolled in the required insurance, please apply for enrollment via the same page.

Note:
There have been cases of students paying for an insurance plan in which they are already enrolled. Please be sure to check your insurance status before proceeding with any insurance enrollment procedures. Also note that the insurance status of a new subscriber may not be reflected in KULASIS until several weeks after the premium was paid. If you need to know your status urgently, please contact the office specified at the bottom of this page.

Current students who expect to remain enrolled at the University beyond the regular term of study (including due to taking a leave of absence) and who therefore need to re-enroll in insurance

Research students and others are generally required to enroll in a 'Type A' insurance plan for one year. Those expecting to take part in clinical training or other activities, however, will be subjected to different insurance requirements and are therefore advised to consult with the educational affairs section of their department.

Note:
There have been cases of students paying for an insurance plan in which they are already enrolled. Please confirm your insurance status with the Education/Student Affairs Section (Kyomu Gakari) of your faculty/graduate school or with the office specified below before proceeding with any insurance enrollment procedures.
