The Center for African Area Studies promotes multidisciplinary research on Africa. The center’s primary foci are the sustainable use of the environment, agriculture and other economic activities, multi-ethnic coexistence, and socio-cultural change. Research is also undertaken into the potential of using indigenous practices as catalysts for Africa’s development. The center has concluded cooperative research agreements with the world’s academic institutions and publishes a quarterly interdisciplinary journal.
