Having automated external defibrillators (AEDs) installed in public places — eg, airports, railway stations, shopping malls, accommodations, entertainment facilities, and sports grounds — has been shown to improve the chances of survival in cases of cardiopulmonary arrest. The practice is recommended by health authorities in the United States, Europe, and other parts of the world, and has been adopted by Kyoto University, where AEDs are available at the locations indicated on the maps below.
