17th Tachibana Award Ceremony concludes

On 7 March, Kyoto University held an award ceremony for the winners of the 17th Tachibana Award for Outstanding Women Researchers. The annual award honors the University's early-career women scholars who have made exceptional achievements.

The 2025 ceremony was held at the International Science and Innovation Building and was also live-streamed.

The proceedings began with remarks from Dr Kyoko Inagaki, executive vice-president for gender equality, international affairs, and external affairs, who reflected on the selection process as the award committee chair. President Nagahiro Minato then presented a certificate and plaque to each of the two winners, one in the researcher category and the other in the student category. The researcher winner was Dr Risa Moriya, program-specific associate professor at the Institute for Research in Humanities, and the student winner was Nana Ishimura, a 4th-year doctoral student at the Graduate School of Medicine. Each also received a Wacoal Prize from Mr Keisuke Kawanishi, Wacoal Corporation's Representative Director, President, and CEO.

Next, President Minato and Representative Director Kawanishi presented a certificate and additional prize to Assistant Professor Rina Tazai of the Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics, this year's honorable mention recipient in the researcher category.

President Minato then delivered a congratulatory address, wishing all the awardees continued success in their research, followed by congratulations from Representative Director Kawanishi.

Afterward, the Tachibana Award recipients Program-Specific Associate Professor Moriya and Ms Ishimura presented their winning research, the former discussing "Art and People under Siberian Internment 1945–1956", and the latter, "Social Determinants of Health in Chronic Kidney Disease".

The event concluded with an address from Assistant Professor Tazai.
