On the eve of the inauguration of Kyoto University's 26th President, a ceremony was held to mark the succession of the presidency from President Hiroshi Matsumoto to Professor Juichi Yamagiwa, followed by another honoring the outgoing President and Executive Vice-Presidents. The latter included an address of thanks from Professor Yamagiwa, delivered on behalf of KU's entire faculty and staff, and retirement speeches by President Matsumoto and the outgoing Executive Vice-Presidents.
After the ceremonies, President Matsumoto appeared in front of the University Head Office Building, and was presented with a bouquet of flowers amid warm applause from a crowd of some 300 faculty and staff who had gathered for the occasion.
