The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings have been published annually since 2004. The overall ranking score of each university is calculated by methodology based on the aggregation of weighted performance indicators grouped under five assessment pillars.

Results
The THE World University Rankings 2025 were published in October 2024. Kyoto University was ranked 55th among 2,092 universities from 115 countries and regions. Only one other Japanese university was ranked in the top 100.
Kyoto University was particularly highly evaluated in the "Industry" (=1st), "Teaching" (18th) and "Research Environment" (26th) pillars.

THE Impact Rankings
The THE Impact Rankings have been annually published since 2019 with the aim of visualizing each university's performance with regards to social contribution against the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) advocated by the United Nations. Each university submits data pertaining to SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) and at least three additional SDGs. The evaluations for SDG 17 and the three most highly scored SDGs are then combined to determine the university's overall ranking.

Results
The THE Impact Rankings 2024 were published in June 2024. Kyoto University was ranked =95th among 2,152 universities from 125 countries and regions. Only one other Japanese university was ranked in the top 100.
Kyoto University was particularly highly evaluated in the SDG rankings, especially in SDG 2 (22nd) and SDG 9 (=23rd).

THE Asia University Rankings
The THE Asia University Rankings are regional rankings of Asian universities published annually. The methodology employs the same performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings; however, they are recalibrated to reflect the attributes of Asia's institutions.

The THE Asia University Rankings 2024 were published in April 2024. Kyoto University was ranked 13th among 739 universities. Only one other Japanese university was ranked in the top 15.
Kyoto University was particularly highly evaluated in the "Industry" (=1st), "Teaching" (4th), and "Research" (11th) pillars.

The overall ranking score of each university is calculated by methodology based on the aggregation of weighted performance indicators grouped under four assessment pillars. Many of the indicators focus on education.

The THE Japan University Rankings 2023 were published in March 2023. Kyoto University was ranked 5th among 271 universities.
Kyoto University was particularly highly evaluated in the "Outcomes" pillar, ranking 1st for the fifth consecutive year.
