On 30 November 2018, the Graduate School of Environmental Studies (GSGES) and Bogor Agricultural University (Institut Pertanian Bogor, or IPB) jointly held a Study-in-Kyoto-and-Bogor Fair in Bogor, Indonesia. The fair offered an opportunity for local students to learn and consult about KyotoU and IPB undergraduate and graduate programs, available scholarships, and life in Kyoto.
Despite being a side event to the Kyoto University International Symposium on Education and Research in Global Environmental Studies, taking place 30 November – 2 December at IPB, the fair was held on a grand scale with nearly 200 prospective students attending. The program began with a speech by KyotoU President Juichi Yamagiwa, and featured presentations by representatives of numerous KyotoU and IPB programs, the Japanese Embassy in Indonesia, Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), and IPB's International Cooperation Office.
Presenters from Kyoto included deans of five graduate schools — Global Environmental Studies, Agriculture, Engineering, Human and Environmental Studies, and Asia and Africa Area Studies — and representatives of two undergraduate programs — the Faculty of Engineering's International Course in Civil Engineering and the recently launched Kyoto International Undergraduate Program (Kyoto iUP).
Visitors attentively listened to the presentations, and many took the opportunity to visit individual booths for consultations with participating faculty and students, among whom were Indonesian nationals studying at Kyoto.
The final presentation was followed by a prize draw, conducted with three assistants: Dr Kayo Inaba, Kyoto University's executive vice-president for gender equality, international affairs, and public relations; Dr Dase Hunaefi, Deputy Director for Collaboration & International Relation at the IPB International Collaboration Office; and Dr Ernan Rustiadi, head of the IPB Center for Regional System Analysis, Planning and Development (CrestPent). The session generated a great deal of excitement as 20 lucky students were awarded KyotoU- and IPB-branded products as prizes.
