On 27 December 2018, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) announced the year's JSPS Prize awardees, including the three KyotoU researchers listed below.
The award ceremony took place Thursday 7 February 2019 at the Japan Academy (Nippon Gakushi-in) in Tokyo.

The JSPS Prize was established in 2004 to honor highly creative and capable Japanese researchers in their early careers. By further motivating such researchers in their work and supporting their endeavors, it aims to contribute to raising "the level of scientific research in Japan to the world's highest standard".
Awardees are selected by a committee of world-leading researchers from various fields of the humanities and sciences.
