On 8 August, Dr Kayo Inaba, executive vice-president for gender equality, international affairs, and public relations, visited Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and attended a signing ceremony to conclude an academic cooperation and exchange agreement between Kyoto University and UKM. The ceremony was attended by HE Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, 5th Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mr Hiroyuki Orikasa, minister counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, and Professor Yasushi Kosugi of the Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies (ASAFAS) of Kyoto University.
The memorandum is anticipated to significantly advance collaboration between the two universities, including existing academic collaboration by Kyoto University's ASAFAS, Graduate School of Agriculture, and Graduate School of Engineering.
Afterwards, EVP Inaba gave a lecture at the Southeast Asia Network Forum about present and further academic cooperation between Kyoto University and universities in Malaysia.
