On 5 February, the Japan-ASEAN Science, Technology and Innovation Platform (JASTIP) held its third symposium, focusing on "Japan-ASEAN STI Collaboration for SDGs", in Bangkok. Around 100 people from Japan, China, and six ASEAN member states attended.

The event was co-organized with the Thailand National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia, or LIPI), and the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), with support from AZ Science (Thailand) Co Ltd and Japan's science ministry MEXT.

The symposium featured activity reports and research presentations from JASTIP's Headquarters and three Joint Laboratories, followed by Q&As and general discussion. In these sessions, experts and stakeholders from Japan and ASEAN offered numerous insights of importance to the future of JASTIP as they explored topics such as how their countries should work together to promote cross-disciplinary and cross-sector collaboration, and how JASTIP can be improved upon to better support Japan-ASEAN cooperation in science, technology, and innovation (STI).

There were also poster presentations, enabling researchers to engage in face-to-face dialogue to contribute to the development of Japan-ASEAN STI cooperation.
