On 4 November, Visiting Professor Tasuku Honjo was presented with a certificate for his recently-awarded Thomson Reuters Citation Laureate. He is among the 24 researchers announced in September as this year's laureates.

Citation Laureates typically rank among the top one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) of researchers in their fields -- physics, chemistry, medicine, and economics -- based on citations of their published papers over the last two decades, and are recognized as leaders in areas of particular interest to the scientific community.

Professor Honjo's most cited work concerns "programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) and its pathway", and his elucidation of this topic has resulted in major advances in cancer immunotherapy.

Professor Honjo is the fourth KU-affiliated Citation Laureate, the previous three being Professor Kazutoshi Mori of the Graduate School of Science, Professor Susumu Kitagawa of the Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS), and Professor Shinya Yamanaka of the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA).
