發表日期

As part of the Global Science Campus ELCAS ("Experienced-based Learning Course for Advanced Science") program, the High School/University Liaison Unit for Science Education carried out a workshop in Vietnam, with the cooperation of the international exchange/fieldwork course organized by the Hall of Global Environmental Research, Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies. 12 students studying in the ELCAS international program and two KU faculty members took part in the workshop.

On the first and second days, participants visited the Reunification Palace and the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, to learn of the Vietnam War and its remaining scars. From the third day the group stayed in the city of Hue, taking training sessions together with students from Quoc Hoc–Hue High School and Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry (HUAF). ELCAS participants also visited the mountainous Hong Ha commune, as well as the Community House which was built with the support of Kyoto University, HUAF, and other organizations.

During their stay, ELCAS students collected water samples from urban areas, lagoons, and rural locations, testing water quality. They presented their results at a session on 16 August, which was attended by around 50 students from Quoc Hoc–Hue High School and HUAF, along with 14 students and faculty members from Kyoto University, who were coincidentally in Vietnam on an international exchange/fieldwork course. Active discussion in Japanese, English, and Vietnamese took place on the topics of water quality testing, dietary culture, and other areas. ELCAS students provided feedback, including "Vietnam has great culture and institutions that Japanese people should learn from". After the presentations, each ELCAS student received a completion certificate from HUAF.
