A send-off meeting was held for those participating in Kyoto University's study-abroad programs this year, taking place at the International Conference Hall in the Clock Tower Centennial Hall. The meeting aimed to raise participants' awareness of being representatives of the University. 59 students attended, among participants of: the John Mung Program; the "Omoro-challenge" program, which was established this year by a donation from Kyoto University Kanae-Kai, a KU alumni organization consisting of business leaders supporting the President; "Tobitate! Study Abroad Initiative"; short-term summer school programs which are part of university-level agreements.
Kyoto University's President Juichi Yamagiwa offered words of encouragement to the soon-to-depart students, stating: "Even when you cannot communicate through language, try hard to let people around you get interested in yourself and what you want to do. That is the key to success in studying abroad". Three students representing each program delivered speeches presenting goals they wish to achieve and what studying abroad means to them. Executive Vice-President Shinsuke Kawazoe then delivered words of encouragement. The meeting closed successfully with a commemorative photograph.
