Former President Matsumoto honored in portrait unveiling ceremony (22 November 2015)

On 22 November, former President Hiroshi Matsumoto, along with his wife, unveiled portraits of himself at Kyoto Brighton Hotel.

A great number of Kyoto University senior administrators, deans, directors, and former vice-presidents gathered for the occasion. Among those present were: President Juichi Yamagiwa; Mr Noboru Nishisaka, former Executive Vice-President for Finance, Facilities, and Environmental Health and Safety; Dr Kiyoshi Kikkawa, former Executive Vice-President for Research; Mr Shinji Asonuma, Executive Vice-President for Industry-Government-Academia Collaboration; Professor Kayo Inaba, Executive Vice-President for Industry-Government-Academia Collaboration; Dr Shinsuke Kawazoe, Executive Vice-President for Student Affairs and Library Services; Professor Masao Kitano, Executive Vice-President for Education, Information Infrastructure, and Evaluation; Dr Naoki Sato, Executive Vice-President for Finance, Facilities, and Environmental Health and Safety; Mr Takayoshi Seiki, Executive Vice-President for General Affairs and Personnel; and Professor Nagahiro Minato, Executive Vice-President for Research, Planning, and Hospital Administration.

Following President Yamagiwa's greetings, Dr Matsumoto received a certificate listing the items to be presented ( mokuroku ), unveiled the portraits, and received a bouquet of flowers.

Next, artist Mr Kenji Tsuruta, Director of @KCUA (Kyoto City University of Arts Gallery), delivered a speech reflecting on the process of creating those artworks.

Finally, Dr Matsumoto shared his memories of the six years he had spent as President of Kyoto University, and discussed his current role as President of RIKEN.

The ceremony was followed by a party, in which Dr Matsumoto and his wife engaged in casual conversation with other attendees.
