Uji campus recycling fair and international exchange event (9 November 2015)

The annual recycling fair was held on the Uji Campus as a means to support international researchers and students.

Now in its tenth year, the fair provides a place where international researchers and students can pick up household items donated by Uji Campus faculty and staff. As with the previous year, an exchange meeting was held simultaneously to promote interaction between the participants and faculty staff.

Around 70 people came by to the venue in the Hybrid Space at Uji Obaku Plaza to take a look at the 740 items on display. The fair offered a wide variety of items, such as kitchen counters, ready-to-assemble furniture, appliances, futon mats, clothes, tableware, pans, toys, and children's goods. This was much appreciated by Uji's international community, including researchers, students, and their families.

In the meet-and-greet space located next to the fair venue, visitors were given a "self-introduction time" and enjoyed conversations over tea.

Directors of several Uji institutes joined the meet-and-greet session. Director Professor Kaoru Takara of the Disaster Prevention Research Institute welcomed the visitors; Director Professor Norihiro Tokitoh of the Institute for Chemical Research and Professor Junji Sugiyama of the Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere also introduced themselves. A home appliance raffle was held after the meet-and-greet and livened up the venue with great excitement.

Over the course of this year, 393 researchers and around 100 students from abroad visited or came to live in the Uji Camus as part of their research or studies. Kyoto University is committed to continue offering support through welfare events and projects.
