Kyoto University hosted the Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum 2015 University Presidents' Lunch Meeting at the Kyoto International Conference Center on 10 October 2015. The lunch meeting was held as part of the 12th edition of the STS Forum, and was attended by 64 senior officials, including presidents, from universities around the world. The meeting sought to provide its participants with an opportunity to frankly discuss the challenges currently being faced by the world's leading education and research institutions.

This year, the lunch meeting adopted the three themes of "How Should We Direct the Development of Education in the ICT Age?", "How Can Universities Work with the Industrial Sector to Offer Effective Internship Programs?", and "How Can We Ensure that Universities Provide Equal Access to Higher Education and Equal Opportunities?" President Juichi Yamagiwa of Kyoto University and Chancellor Pradeep Khosla of the University of California, San Diego co-chaired the lunch meeting, and the participants were divided into eight groups, each of which discussed one of the three themes.

The small-group sessions enabled participants to actively engage in discussions on common issues shared by their institutions regardless of location or nationality, and also share ideas to promote future collaboration. After the small-group sessions, a summary session was held in which a representative of each group reported the findings of their discussions. The co-chairs then brought the meeting to a close with an overview and concluding comments.
