On 27 April, "Higashi Ichijokan", a new home for the Graduate School of Advanced Leadership Studies (Shishu-Kan) and other Leading Graduate School Programs of Kyoto University, was opened at the site of the former Sakyo Ward office. The occasion was marked with a dedication ceremony attended by around 70 guests from the University and elsewhere.

After a welcome address by President Juichi Yamagiwa, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was conducted with former KU President Hiroshi Matsumoto, now head of RIKEN, and Kohei Shiota, President of Shiga University of Medical Science, as well as several other KU executives and local officials. There followed unveilings of Higashi Ichijokan and Shishu-Kan signs at the building's entrance.

The event concluded with a building tour, in which the guests enjoyed an informal inspection of the new facility.
