Over the course of each academic year, Kyoto University's International Center and International Student Mobility Division jointly host a series of events to promote study-abroad opportunities available to KU students. On 22 April, one such meeting focused on student-exchange programs for first-year undergraduates took place in the International Center's KUINEP lecture room.
The first presentation, by an International Center faculty member, discussed available opportunities and language requirements, and advised prospective participants to begin planning early with job-hunting needs in mind. Students were advised to take language tests, such as TOEFL, as soon as possible in order to allow for as many retake times as needed. The presenter also mentioned other available international study options, including English-taught courses offered by the Kyoto University International Education Program (KUINEP), Kyoto Consortium for Japanese Studies (KCJS), and Stanford Japan Center (SFC), as well as short-term international exchange or fieldwork courses.
Next, members of Exchange Student Supporters in Kyoto University (ESSK), a group of KU students who have participated in exchange programs and are eager to assist those interested in similar opportunities, shared their overseas experiences in a way that was both informative and attractive.
Many of the 142 students who filled the briefing venue stayed on afterward, getting individual advice from the presenters and demonstrating eagerness to gain their own study-abroad experiences during their time enrolled at KU.
