Kyoto University has been selected to be a host institution for Amgen Scholars, a summer program for undergraduate students, over the course of two years. The program, funded by the Amgen Foundation, allows students across the globe to engage in cutting-edge research projects at globally recognized academic institutions, in order to foster the next generation of outstanding scientists. Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo have been selected as the first host institutions in Japan
Kyoto's eight-week program (1 July to 28 August 2015) will host 25 students, fully supporting round-trip travel, accommodations, and meals. Participants will join one of 22 laboratories at six Graduate Schools -- Science, Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, Bioscience, or Global Environmental Studies. And in addition to cutting-edge research, students will also participate in extracurricular events or relevant academic activities, such as poster sessions.
The Amgen Foundation, Kyoto University, and the University of Tokyo held a press conference at the University of Tokyo's Ito International Research Center on 19 November, announcing the launch of the program in Japan. Professor Toshio Sugiman, Kyoto University Executive Vice-President, explained details of the University's program and how it relates to a vision for the future.
