Throughout each academic year, The International Center and the International Student Mobility Division host a series of seminars called Ryugaku no Susume ("Let's Study Abroad"), offering information on various aspects of studying abroad, including foreign travel safety, which was the theme of the event held in July in the Kyoto University International Education Program (KUINEP) lecture room of The International Center.
In the Overseas Travel Safety Briefing, as the event was called, a faculty member from The International Center gave a lecture on the various risks that might be encountered while staying overseas, including those related to personal safety and physical and mental health, describing past incidents and offering crime prevention tips. She also stressed that having correct knowledge about safety, staying well-informed, and purchasing insurance were key if students were to study or train abroad in a safe and comfortable environment. The attendees, the majority of whom were either preparing to study at one of the partner institutions of Kyoto University or planning to take part in a short-term study abroad program, listened to the talk with great interest, gaining a deeper understanding of the risks involved and a greater awareness of safety.
