Kyoto University's Office of Society-Academia Collaboration for Innovation (SACI) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) co-hosted the Kyoto University New Technology Presentation Meeting at the annex of JST's headquarters in Ichigaya, Tokyo, in cooperation with Kansai Technology Licensing Organization (TLO) Co, Ltd. The New Technology Presentation Meetings are held jointly by JST, universities, and other institutions on a continual basis with the aim of promoting the practical applications of research findings generated from projects undertaken by universities, public research institutes, and JST. At these meetings, inventors themselves are able to present licensable patents (or unpublished patent applications) from universities, and corporate participants can meet with them at consultation booths afterwards, potentially leading to research collaborations or licensing agreements.
The 27 May meeting featured nine patents (new technologies) spanning categories such as "Materials", "Energy", "Devices", "Medicine", and "Biotechnologies".
The meeting was attended by a great number of corporate representatives, who listened to the presentations with keen interest, and exchanged business cards with many of the inventors.
At some of the consultation booths set up after the presentations, corporate participants interested in commercializing new technologies formed long lines, indicating that there was great potential for the advancement of industry-academia projects, such as research collaborations and technology transfers, to emerge from this event.
SACI remains committed to working to ensure that research achievements from Kyoto University will serve to spark innovation across Japan and spur new industries and markets.
