Presentation by a panelist (symposium)
The 2013 Second Meeting of Selected Universities, which is funded by the Re-Inventing Japan Project (ASEAN-related program), was held at the Clock Tower Centennial Hall.
At the meeting (which started at 10:00 a.m.), presentations on the current status and issues regarding the project were given by the universities undertaking the three programs adopted under "Type A-II CAMPUS Asia: Support for the Formation of a Core Center" and the fourteen programs under "Support for the Formation of Collaborative Programs with ASEAN Universities" of MEXT's Re-Inventing Japan Project. A briefing was also given by an official from MEXT's Higher Education Bureau on the AIMS (ASEAN International Mobility for Students) Program for FY2013. In addition, a participant from the University of Tsukuba, representing a key institution of the program, provided further information and gave confirmation regarding future cooperation.
Around the end of the meeting, participants exchanged views on how to share good practices in undertaking projects under this program and the challenges of implementing the program, which will help the program's future development.
The joint symposium held in the afternoon was opened with a speech by Executive Vice-President Akihiko Akamatsu from Kyoto University on behalf of the organizer. Then following a speech by Mr. Osamu Aruga (director of the Office for International Planning, Higher Education Policy Planning Division, MEXT Higher Education Bureau), presentations on the program were given (in order) by Kyushu University, Kyoto University and Keio University.
In the panel discussion that followed, not only program participants but also speakers from different fields participated as panelists to discuss issues beyond the program's framework and good practices, making the event a fruitful opportunity.
