Mr. Tsutomu Miura, a technical staff member at the Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), received the 2013 Earthquake & Volcanic Disaster Prevention Award for his technical assistance regarding the development of next-generation dense earthquake observation systems and the smooth, efficient operation of domestic and international multipoint observation networks.
Sponsored by the University of Tokyo's Earthquake Research Institute, the award honors outstanding achievements from a technical perspective in the observation or research of earthquakes and volcanos as well as the prevention and mitigation of disasters caused by them. The Earthquake Research Institute took over the sponsorship of the award in 2010 upon dissolution of the Association for Earthquake Disaster Prevention, which originally presented the award.
