On the occasion of the Kyoto University - National Taiwan University Symposium 2013 held at National Taiwan University (NTU), Kyoto University held two information sessions for NTU students who wish to study at Kyoto University.
On December 18 (the day before the symposium), Kyoto University's Graduate School of Agriculture held an information session at NTU's College of Bioresources and Agriculture, with eight faculty staff members in attendance, including Dean Hisashi Miyagawa. After speeches by Dean Yuan-Tay Shyu (NTU College of Bioresources and Agriculture) and Dean Miyagawa, an overview of each division of the Graduate School of Agriculture was given with an introduction to research projects. Participants were also briefed on the admission system for international students. From NTU, more than fifty students in addition to faculty staff members gathered at the venue and eagerly listened to the briefing.
After the session, staff members in charge of international exchange from the two parties held a discussion on specific issues regarding the acceptance of NTU students by Kyoto University, which will be realized within this academic year . Kyoto University's Graduate School of Agriculture and NTU College of Bioresources and Agriculture already signed a student exchange agreement in 2012, and exchanges are expected to grow even more active in the future.
On December 20, an information session on Kyoto University's international programs was held, with the participation of Specially Appointed Associate Professor Han Liyou (the Organization for the Promotion of International Relations) and staff members from the Foreign Student Division. From the afternoon to the evening, a Kyoto University booth was set up at the 1st Student Activity Center , where many students pass by. To students who wish to study in Japan or Kyoto, they handed out brochures on Kyoto University and answered specific questions on scholarship systems and life in Japan. Students from the Department of Japanese Language and Literature graciously helped as volunteer interpreters (at NTU there are many students who already study Japanese). In the evening, an information session on Kyoto University's international programs was also held at the Liberal Education Classroom Building. Many NTU students who gathered at the venue eagerly listened to the presentation on Kyoto University by Specially Appointed Associate Professor Han and asked questions on many different points, such as the graduate schools they wish to enroll in and how to apply. We hope that this event will be a starting point to get more NTU students to study at Kyoto University.
