'KIZUNA' presents "Introduction to Japanese Traditional Dance" (26 February 2016)

发表日期

The 'KIZUNA' event for February was an introductory class in Japanese traditional dance, held in conjunction with the COCOLOIKI project, which is operated by the Education and Research Unit for Regional Alliances, Center for the Promotion of Interdisciplinary Education and Research (C-PIER). Instruction was provided by Ms Shisen Tatsumi from Murasaki no Kai, who teaches dance classes at universities and at the Kyoto Prefectural International Center.

Participants changed into kimono speedily with help from Ms Tatsumi, and picked their favorite sensu (Japanese folding fan) to use for dancing. They then practiced dancing to the traditional Japanese song "Sakura Sakura (Cherry Blossoms)", under the instructor's guidance.

Break time was spent watching videos of dance performances at the prestigious Kyoto Shijo Minami-za theater and enjoying each other's company.

Despite its short duration, the lesson concluded with everyone having learned to dance two songs.

The event also provided a great opportunity for the participants to learn about traditional performance performing art and to get to know other students.
