On 30 March 2023, the completion ceremony for the 2022 Kyoto iUP Preparatory Course took place at Yoshida International House with 25 students taking part. Many of the faculty members involved in the six-month program also participated to congratulate the graduating class.
The ceremony began with a congratulatory speech by Professor Takao Hirajima, executive vice-president for education and student affairs, followed by Professor Hisashi Miyagawa, director of the Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences (ILAS), who conferred course completion certificates on the students.
Afterward, four of the graduates, each representing one of the four proficiency-based Japanese-language classes held as part of the preparation, delivered acknowledgement speeches describing their experiences during the previous six months. One spoke of the joys of being able to attend classes in person after months of online learning. The four students also expressed gratitude to the faculty and staff and shared their undergraduate career resolutions.
As in the previous year, the event included the showing of a video message from senior iUP students. The considerable effort they had put into congratulating and encouraging their juniors clearly impressed all who attended.
Lastly, Professor Shinji Hasebe, program manager for Kyoto iUP, delivered closing remarks addressing the graduates, all of whom seemed filled with excitement and anticipation for their first undergraduate year beginning in April.
