KIZUNA's December event is a Shimekazari Making Workshop, taught by members of Fukufuku (link below).
A part of the Japanese New Year's tradition, the shimekazari is a decoration made of a length of rice-straw rope and strips of white paper. It is typically placed above the front door of a house for the first few days of January.
In the upcoming workshop, participants will make their own shimekazari by twisting rope and decorating it with seasonal plants and berries. The finished shimekazari can be taken home as a New Year's souvenir.
This will also be a great opportunity to broaden your knowledge about popular Japanese traditions. We are looking forward to your participation.
