June 8, 2010
The live public broadcast of "Tabisuru Radio," a program on NHK Radio 1 (a nationwide broadcast channel), was conducted at the square south of Cafeteria Rune on the West Campus. "Tabisuru Radio" is a program that uses radio-broadcasting vans to visit various locations in Japan every week, introducing various topics of the region to the rest of Japan. The first week of June was allocated to Kyoto Prefecture, and on June 8, the second day of Kyoto week, the program was broadcast with Mr. Takuro Tatsumi, an actor and Kyoto University alumnus.
The broadcast lasted 20 minutes from 12:30 to 12:50 pm, during which Mr. Tatsumi spoke of how he spent his days as a student at Kyoto University focusing entirely on drama, and how Kyoto University has changed since then. Then, Mr. Tetsuo Kishi (currently a professor emeritus at Kyoto University), who taught the seminar to which Mr. Tatsumi belonged at the time, and Ms. Akiko Manabe (currently a professor at Shiga University), a classmate from the seminar, joined the program and reminisced about the character of Mr. Tatsumi in those days. The friendly atmosphere continued, with Mr. Kishi revealing Mr. Tatsumi's popularity among girls, causing Mr. Tatsumi to blush.
About 100 people, including students and nearby residents, gathered to watch and listen eagerly to Mr. Tatsumi.
