Kazutoshi Mori (Professor at the Graduate School of Science) and Shinya Yamanaka (Director of the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application, Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences) have won Gairdner International Awards. Regarding their wins, a press conference was held.

One of the world's foremost medical awards, Gairdner International Award is bestowed upon individuals in the fields of basic or clinical health sciences, for outstanding contributions to the conquest of disease and relief of human suffering. This year, the Gairdner Foundation is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Past Gairdner Awardees, many of whom have subsequently gone on to win the Nobel Prize, include six Japanese.

The award ceremony will be held on October 29 in Toronto, Canada.
