From 9 through 27 October and from 7 through 27 December 2018, the Institute of Advanced Energy (IAE) hosted an internship program, the "ASEAN Young Researcher Training Program in the Energy Field", in collaboration with the Graduate School of Energy Science, the Graduate School of Engineering, and the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies (GSGES). The program was organized under the Wild & Wise Collaborative Learning Program with support from Kyoto University.
Taking part were ten students from four Thai universities: King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), one of the partners in the "Japan-ASEAN Science, Technology, and Innovation Platform (JASTIP)"; King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL); Chulalongkorn University; and Thammasat University.
Interns from KMUTT were four students enrolled in the university's Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE). At Kyoto, two of them (Nattakarn Sakarapunthip, doctoral program, and Tunnapat Worarutariyachai, master's program) trained at the Graduate School of Energy Science's Department of Fundamental Energy Science (Professor Takashi Sagawa), and the other two (Supachai Jadsadajerm, doctoral, and Chonticha Rajrujithong, master's) at IAE (Professor Hideaki Ohgaki and Specially Appointed Professor Kouichi Miura).
From KMITL, two undergraduate students at the College of Nanotechnology (Mahamu Hambalee and Pornpugdewatana Arisa) came to intern at the Graduate School of Energy Science's Department of Socio-Environmental Energy Science (Professor Keiichi Ishihara).
Chulalongkorn University was represented by two graduate students (Siripit Songtawee, doctoral, and Patcharaporn Srisratthatwo, master's), who trained at the Graduate School of Engineering's Department of Chemical Engineering (Professor Noriaki Sano).
Finally, two undergraduate students from Thammasat University (Tan Vongvarotai and Sicha Arayatham) were hosted by GSGES' Department of Technology and Ecology (Professor Takeshi Abe).
In addition to working in laboratories, the interns had opportunities to experience Japanese culture, visiting Kyoto's historical sites and eating local food in the company of their Japanese peers. The organizers hope that these experiences will contribute to the participants' ongoing studies as well as to enhanced international research collaboration.
