On 7–8 March, the 13th University Administrators Workshop (UAW) took place at National Taiwan University (NTU) in Taipei. Four KyotoU officials participated, including Professor Yukari Mitsuhashi, vice-director of the International Strategy Office.
Inaugurated in 2006, UAW annually provides a forum for university staff in charge of international affairs at Asian and other institutions to share ideas and best practices for internationalization, discuss common issues, and deepen mutual understanding.
The 13th UAW — the first to take place in Taiwan, hosted by NTU as part of its 90th anniversary celebrations — was themed "Fostering sustainable talent systems for university administrators responsible for international/global activities and strategies". More than 100 administrators participated from 27 institutions in 12 countries and territories.
The event opened with greetings from Professor Luisa Shu-Ying Chang, NTU's vice president for international affairs, followed by group discussions, a poster session, and panel.
The group discussions and poster session explored three topics: "Employment and promotion systems of administrators responsible for international/global activities and strategies", "Practices of office/team knowledge management for international/global activities and strategies", and "Practices of on-job competency for career advancements of administrators responsible for international activities/strategies". Participants discussed situations at their own institutions, sharing issues and solutions with their fellow administrators.
The part of the program concluded with each group reporting on the outcomes of its discussion, making the insights gained available to all present.
In the panel talk that followed, representatives of six institutions, including Kyoto University, addressed topics such as the most important role of administrators in charge of international affairs, and career development of university staff.
The 13th UAW closed with an announcement that Hong Kong University of Science and Technology will host the next event.
UAW is anticipated to continue to play a key role in facilitating information sharing, discussion, and networking among universities across the world.
