Kyoto University regrets to announce that Dr Toshio Sawada, who served as the 20th President from 1979 to 1985, died on 18 October 2017 at the age of 98.
Statement from President Juichi Yamagiwa
I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr Sawada, and on behalf of the University's faculty and staff, would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.
He will always be remembered for his contributions to the extraordinary growth that the University achieved under his presidency, and I am committed to continuously learning from his legacy as I explore future directions for our University.
