On Wednesday 21 June, three days after its foundation day on the 18th, Kyoto University hosted its 61st Anniversary Concert at Kyoto Concert Hall, featuring pianist Mari Kumamoto.
The program included powerful and exquisite renditions of classical favorites, such as Frédéric Chopin's Nocturne No 20 in C-sharp minor, op posth, and Franz Liszt's Liebestraum No 3 in A-flat major, as well as " Otemoyan ", a popular Japanese folk song from Kumamoto Prefecture.
Concertgoers were clearly enchanted and soothed by Ms Kumamoto's music, complemented by her commentary on the songs and her personal experiences.
"I was deeply moved by the full piano sound," said one attendee. "It's been an amazing concert; it introduced me not only to beautiful music, but also to what went into composing each piece," commented another.
