From 13 February through 3 March, the Graduate School of Biostudies hosted a "Wild and Wise Biostudies Workshop" laboratory course for 10 graduate and undergraduate students from National Taiwan University, Heidelberg University (Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg), the University of Michigan, and the University of California, San Diego, who were joined by nine Kyoto University undergraduates.
Based on their research interests, students were each assigned to one of 10 laboratories -- of Professors Taiji Adachi, Takashi Araki, Hideya Fukuzawa, Fuyuki Ishikawa, Takane Katayama, Mineko Kengaku, Michiyuki Matsuda, Takeshi Noda, Tadashi Uemura, and Shin Yonehara -- to experience cutting-edge life science research.
In addition to conducting experiments and engaging in discussions, participants attended three special lectures, visited the Center of iPS Research and Application (CiRA), and participated in the annual International Student Seminar, run by students of the Graduate School of Biostudies.
The program also included exchange activities organized by individual laboratories, as well as a Japan Culture Experience Tour on 18 February featuring Zen meditation and tofu-making.
Throughout the program, participants actively interacted with the host graduate school's students and faculty to learn about ongoing research, eventually sharing the knowledge they had gained in presentations on the final day.
