On behalf of Kyoto University, I would like to offer my deepest condolences and sympathy to those affected by the series of earthquakes that hit Kumamoto Prefecture beginning 14 April 2016.
Kyoto University is responding to this emergency with ongoing efforts to help with the relief and recovery processes being carried out in affected communities.
One of the University's own facilities, the Aso Volcanological Laboratory of the Institute for Geothermal Sciences, located in Minami-Aso, has also been affected by the disaster, sustaining serious damage to its buildings, grounds, and equipment. We are making utmost efforts to restore this facility to normal operation as quickly as possible, and intend to post updates on the matter as they become available.
