Vietnamese students participate in study and exchange program in Japan (15-25 February 2016)

From 15 through 25 February, eight undergraduate students from three universities in Vietnam -- Hue University, Danang University of Technology, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology -- accompanied by one faculty member, visited Japan to take part in a study and exchange program hosted by Kyoto University. It was organized in conjunction with the international fieldwork/exchange course "Livelihood, Environment, and Peace: Studying in Vietnam" -- a joint project between Hue University in central Vietnam and KU Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies (GSGES) -- through which more than 100 KU undergraduate students have studied at the Vietnamese university over the past seven years.

The KU-hosted program kicked off with a welcome party held with more than 60 participants. Over the next nine days, the eight Vietnamese students attended seminars taught by their compatriots studying at KU, toured the city of Kyoto with KU students serving as guides, and went on fieldtrips to the Lake Biwa area to learn about local industry, rural life, and environmental rehabilitation, and to the city of Hiroshima to learn about WWII. Throughout these activities the participants were accompanied by their Japanese counterparts, all of whom had previously visited Vietnam as part of the "Livelihood, Environment, and Peace" course.
