Kyoto University TechConnect 2015, the third edition of a technology-showcase event hosted by the University, took place on 13 March at the Katsura Campus's Innovation Plaza. A capacity crowd of nearly 80 people -- representing businesses, financial institutions, and news media -- attended.
Part one of the event -- with the overall theme "environment and ecology" -- was comprised of presentations by four early-career researchers, regarding inventions related to waste-water drainage and treatment.
The second part offered a networking opportunity where visitors were able to speak with the presenters and the Vice-Dean of KU's Graduate School of Engineering. Animated discussions continued through this part of the program, with participants actively asking questions and offering feedback. The venue also hosted poster presentations by startup businesses, and also from companies and organizations represented at the event, providing more opportunities for fresh encounters.
Among the comments left by the attendees were: "We are considering contacting the researcher(s)", and "Our business would surely benefit from the invention(s) showcased today."
The organizers aim to continue to hold TechConnect biannually, each event devoted to a particular theme, in order to encourage more collaborations between Kyoto University and the business community.
