Kyoto University has been selected for the FY2014 Top Global University Project, a higher education reform initiative launched this fiscal year by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

Kyoto University's reform initiative is called "Japan Gateway: Kyoto University Top Global Program" and is categorized as "Type A: Top Type" in the Top Global University Project.
The Japan Gateway initiative focuses on advancing Kyoto University's ongoing efforts to renew its admission policies and postgraduate programs, as well as introducing an international joint degree program and building a "world-premium higher-education network" -- activities that are expected to help the University enhance capabilities to systematically support researchers who can make an impact on the global stage.
