Professor Isamu Akasaki is a highly accomplished researcher who completed his undergraduate studies at Kyoto University's Faculty of Science. I am extremely pleased that his many years of outstanding work have been recognized in this manner, and would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to him on receiving the Nobel Prize in Physics.
As President of Kyoto University, I am immensely proud of the fact that Professor Akasaki has earned worldwide recognition for his exceptional research achievements. It is a great honor indeed if our institution's core principle of academic freedom has played even a small role in the development of his highly productive career.
His success will undoubtedly encourage Kyoto University's educational and research activities, and in particular serve as a great inspiration to our students and early-career researchers.
I wish Professor Akasaki many more years of health and success.
