발행일

Noh and Kyogen performances for students, faculty and staff were presented recently at the Kyoto Kanze Noh Theater in Sakyo-ku. Now in its 59th year, this event is held annually for the University community as one of the university's extracurricular educational programs, along with the Kyoto University Anniversary Concert.

This year, Kyogen play "Enmeibukuro" and Noh drama "Michimori" were performed. The audience, ranging from longtime fans who look forward to this event every year, to newcomers, first enjoyed the sight of a nagging wife showing affection to her husband in a humorous manner. Then in the following Noh drama, when the ghosts of Taira no Michimori, an aristocratic warrior of the Heian Period, and his wife, Kozaisho, appeared and told a sad story of their sorrowful parting on the eve of Ichinotani-no-kassen (Battle of Ichinotani), accompanied by the sound of flute and drum, the entire audience seemed to be fascinated by the performance on the stage.
